Every Monday, 2.00pm onwards. iPad Sensory Sessions. iPads are now proving to be an innovative way to enhance the lives of people and especially for those living with dementia. Light and easy to handle, iPads provide an effective way to engage, stimulate and reminisce with. Join our intuitive sensory iPad sessions at Avondale. Booking is essential.
Tuesday 4th March, 12.00pm. Pancake Race. Come along and support our annual pancake race around the garden courtyard in aid of charity.
Friday 7th March, 11.30am. Zumba Gold. Come on all you strictly come dancing fans! Join dance teachers Kerry and Nathan and dance your way through the Latino and Salsa sounds of Zumba Gold. All exercises are chair-based and especially adapted for Avondale.
Friday 7th March, 3.00pm. Nippy Tea Party. For the third year running, our ‘Time for a Cuppa’ fundraising tea party showcases our very own tea shop complete with ‘Nippy’ waitresses serving tea, scones, petit fours and strawberries dipped in the chocolate fountain Come along and enjoy our very own Nippy Tea party and the swinging sounds of the roaring 20s and 30s. This event is in aid of Dementia UK’s Time for a Cuppa event 2014.
Friday 14th March, 11.30am. Tai Chi. Join our adaptive chair based Tai Chi exercise to help deepen your breathing, calm your mind and gently stimulate your body systems.
Wednesday 26th March, 2.30pm. Jazz Happy Hour Social. Come and enjoy our Jazz social with Chicago lemonade cocktails and butter pecan cookies.
Thursday 27th March, 11.00am to 3:00pm. Healthy Living Day. Join our Healthy Living Day with a day of events including wellness, healthy snacks and gym sessions on our Kinesis One. Meet healthcare and exercise professionals and find out about how exercise and diet can improve the quality of everyday living. Kinesis gym sessions will be available throughout the day – so come along and have a go!

A Royal Jewel For Every Occasion – Avondale Event
On Thursday 21st November, Avondale Care Home played host to an entertaining and informative talk from Susan Rumfitt, an independent jewellery specialist and one of the team of specialists on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, entitled a Royal jewel for every occasion.
From Henry VIII to the Duchess of Cambridge, this talk focused on a variety of Royal Jewels which have caused wonder and mayhem over the last 500 years.
As well as the delightful talk, the afternoon comprised of a light lunch and a valuation session where residents and guests were able to bring along their cherished items for valuation.
Avondale plays host to a baking demonstration from Great British Bake Offs’ Brendan Lynch
On Thursday 24th October, from 10:30am to 1:45pm, Avondale care home was pleased to host a wonderful days baking, hosted by one of The Great British Bake Offs’ favourite bakers Brendan Lynch, who gave a baking demonstration and answered baking related questions from invited guests.
The days itinerary included;
11:00am Baking Demonstration and Q&A with Brendan Lynch
12:45pm Light lunch

A celebrity gardener brought the delights of summer gardening to Avondale
Residents, families and visitors to Avondale Care Home in Aylesbury enjoyed a major event this month featuring an Open Day talk and afternoon tea with Frances Tophill from ITV’s ‘Love your Garden’.
On Thursday 20th June, Francis Tophill from ITV’s ‘Love your Garden’ visited Avondale to give a talk on the history of some of our most beloved shrubs and flowers that have become established in Britain over the centuries including roses, jasmine, rhododendron and azaleas. The Open Day afforded visitors the chance to view the home and enjoy the hospitality of Avondale with afternoon tea and to ask Frances all manner of questions on gardening etiquette, shrubs and blooms.
Frances will be returning to Avondale for a gardening demonstration and second Open Day talk in the near future.
Avondale home manager, Shaun Canavan said, “these open days exemplify how committed we are to maintaining links for our residents with the wider community”.

My Paralympic Journey with Louise Sugden, GB Wheelchair Basketball player
Earlier this year, Avondale was proud to host an exclusive afternoon with a talk by Louise Sugden.
This special afternoon honoured Aylesbury, as the birthplace of the Paralympics, with local athlete Louise inspiring a packed audience with her story and journey as a team GB wheelchair basket player and Paralympian.
