Peggy Turns 100 – A Centenary Celebration!

On Saturday 5th October, we celebrated the milestone 100th birthday of Peggy, our lovely resident, who has lived with us for over three years now.
Peggy was born in 1919 in Gosforth but grew up in Birkenhead when the average cost of a house was £300 and a pint was 4p. She worked in the John Lewis Store in Liverpool before marrying Geoffrey aged 22. They were married for over 60 years’ and had a son, Malcolm. She has two granddaughters and five great grandchildren.
Peggy is popular with everyone here at the home and well known for her excellent knitting! She partakes in many activities here but her favourite is the U3A’s Knit and Natter group. Peggy has knitted over 150 bears for charity, family and friends out of the kindness of her heart. To celebrate, we held a teddy bear’s picnic party where we reunited Peggy with as many of her knitted bears as we could. Peggy received hundreds of well wishes, gifts and cards which is all testament to the lovely, kind and generous lady that she is. Staff fondly call her the ‘Queen of Haddon Hall Care Home’ and we’re so pleased we were able to help her celebrate this special birthday!
