Porthaven Care Homes partner with Mark Hix MBE

Celebrated chef, restaurateur and food writer, Mark Hix MBE, has partnered with the award-winning Porthaven care home group as their latest Ambassador.

In his many years in food and hospitality, Mark has established himself as one of this country’s leading chefs and food writers, known for his original take on British gastronomy. He is the author of 12 cookbooks and is also a contributor to Dorset Magazine, and writes the weekly recipe column in the Telegraph Magazine.

Mark’s career began at the London Hilton on Park Lane and he had his first Head Chef position at the age of 22 before moving up to the role of Chef Director of Caprice Holdings overseeing venues including The Ivy, Scotts and Le Caprice. In 2007 he left to set up his own group of restaurants.

Dorset-born and bred, Mark opened his current restaurant and pub in 2020 after the HIX restaurant group fell victim to the pandemic. The Oyster & Fish House in Lyme Regis serves the freshest fish and seafood, bought direct from the fishermen, with stunning views of the Jurassic Coast. 30 minutes inland, The Fox Inn is Mark’s latest venture – a Grade II listed 17th Century pub with rooms, serving local meat, game and seasonal produce.

Porthaven operates 18 care homes across England providing residential, nursing and dementia care, and is the current holder of Best Interior Design Award and Best Dementia Design for care homes in the United Kingdom.

Great food and nutrition is one of the central tenets of Porthaven’s philosophy of delivering market-leading care, and for many years Porthaven has also worked with John Wood who earned two Michelin stars during his restaurant career. The new relationship with Mark will see him working closely with the chefs and food and beverage teams at Porthaven to be a source of inspiration both inside, and outside of the kitchen.

Mark Hix commented “It has been obvious to me for many years that both the younger and older generations value good food and wine, and it is refreshing to me to see the passion in the Porthaven teams to deliver excellent meals for their residents and the value that brings to wellbeing.”

John Storey, Chief Executive for Porthaven said: “At Porthaven, ensuring our residents enjoy delicious, nutritious food and drink is fundamental in our approach to delivering great care. We believe that whilst food is a necessity when it comes to good health, it should also be part of an enjoyable experience, enhancing wellbeing. We have incredible chefs and kitchen teams in Porthaven, and are looking forward to working with Mark to inspire new flavours and dishes for our residents and chefs.”
