It was a real treat to welcome antiques expert Eric to Haddon Hall on 15th October, with our ‘Lure of Vintage’ theme. After a humorous but knowledgeable chat about the antique trade, Eric continued chatting over a lovely buffet lunch. In the afternoon, he valued a number of items, including some beautiful Edwardian china. He was also particularly fascinated by a unique medal given to one of the invited guests in 1935, for being the only baby born in Buxton on King George V and Queen Mary’s Silver Jubilee. Eric expert’s eye and good, honest humour was much appreciated by everyone.
Eric explained that the “flat pack society” is unlikely to leave as many fascinating and beautiful heirlooms in the future. He also advised to buy something ‘because you love it’ not necessarily as an investment – as the antique market is fickle. Great advice and everyone truly enjoyed his visit!
