Tales of a Hero – Invictus Games Champion Enthrals with Inspirational Story

On Friday 7th June, we welcomed Invictus Games medallist, Steve Sebburn, to speak to our staff and residents about his victories at last year’s games and the trial and tribulations he went through to become a champion.

Following serious back and brain injuries sustained whilst on a mission specific training exercise for Afghanistan in 2014, Steve was told he would never run or cycle again. He talked guests through his recovery, spoke of his shock at being accepted to compete at the Invictus Games in Toronto in 2017 and achieving his dream of winning medals in Sydney in 2018.

Steve brought along his gold and bronze medals, which he won in the men’s road cycling time trial and the men’s road cycling criterium respectively. Guests enjoyed speaking to Steve afterwards about his achievements, many of whom were astounded by his inspirational talk, and got to wear the medals for photos.
