Located in the world famous ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’, the Cotswolds, Chipping Norton is the setting for Penhurst Gardens Care Home. Steeped in tradition and heritage, Chipping Norton has a picture postcard setting with Cotswold stone architecture and is surrounded by rolling countryside.

Our care home is situated just five minutes’ walk from the thriving High Street, set back in a tranquil and idyllic enclave on the former Penhurst School site on New Street. Nearby towns and villages like Woodstock, Burford, Witney, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Banbury are all within easy reach.

Opened in December 2016, Penhurst Gardens provides 24 hour residential, nursing, dementia and respite care for the elderly in an elegant and spacious home incorporating numerous thoughtful and practical features which ensure Penhurst Gardens is able to meet the changing needs of our residents.

Porthaven’s expertly trained and professional staff are dedicated to the care, comfort and dignity of all our residents, with special emphasis given to promoting independence, privacy, respect and wellbeing.

All residents at Penhurst Gardens benefit from living in a caring environment with generously appointed private bedrooms with en suite wetrooms, and plentiful communal living areas including sitting rooms, restaurants, a café, hairdressing salon, activities and wellbeing room and private dining room for special family occasions.

In keeping with our unique and award winning activities and wellbeing philosophy, our residents also benefit from our private and secure landscaped gardens for peaceful relaxation, gardening and if the weather permits, gentle exercise.

Meet the goats!

In July we surprised our animal-loving resident Liz with a trip to All Things Wild Nature Centre! Here at Penhurst Gardens Care Home, we always enjoy finding out more about our residents’ lives and Liz has told us many stories about her love for farm animals, so it was wonderful to see the look of pure joy on her face as we made our way around the centre. Pictured here is Liz with a herd of goats!

Marvellous Mark Hix!

In June we were delighted to host a live cookery demonstration here at Penhurst Gardens led by celebrated chef, restauranteur and food writer, Mark Hix MBE! The event was attended by our residents’ loved ones, members of the Oxfordshire community, local professionals and even the Mayor of Chipping Norton, Councillor Sandra Coleman. Mark prepared an impressive menu of smoked trout followed by black cow cheddar, pennywort and pickled walnut salad and roast monkfish with Japanese dressing using fresh fish from the Dorset coast and ingredients he had foraged himself. The demonstration was a great success, and we would like to thank those who joined us for this exciting event. We would also like to express our gratitude to everybody involved in the planning and execution of the afternoon and, of course, Mark himself for teaching us how to prepare some exquisite dishes!

Dementia Action Week

In May we marked Dementia Action Week with a number of activities, including a dementia information session, a talk all about nutrition and a seaside-themed sensory reminiscence morning. For our sensory session we invited our friends from The Town Nursery in Chipping Norton to join us, and our residents had a fantastic time interacting with the children. From sand and seashells to a bit of Punch and Judy, there was plenty to keep our visitors entertained, and a fantastic time was had by all!
