Thirlestaine Park welcomes Angela Rippon

‘It’s not about the curtains; it’s the care’

On Friday, October 30 the incomparable TV Presenter and Broadcaster Angela Rippon officially opened Thirlestaine Park. Guests were serenaded by Aderyn, a charming Welsh quartet. Sean Kime then talked about the ‘special people’ who worked at Porthaven, after which Angela gave a warm and humourous speech. She had spent the morning chatting to residents and praised Thirlestaine as a home in the truest sense, free of stiff regimes – where humanity and dignity are paramount. Although clearly Thirlestaine is elegant, she reminded us that ‘It’s not about the curtains – it’s the care.’ MP Alex Chalk also praised Thirlestaine as a ‘good home’.

The chef’s team excelled themselves with boeuf bourguignon, a risotto, Moroccan fish stew and very popular squares of lemon drizzle cake. There was time to chat to Angela and admire the Anthony Slessor bronze statue Splendid, Silent Sun, beautifully framed by our garden’s stunning autumnal colours. A truly exceptional day.
