We had a lovely day commemorating the centenary anniversary of the end of the First World War. To start the day off, residents gathered in the lounges to watch the Remembrance Day parade and at 11am, we had trumpeter Dan Priest in to play the Last Post before holding the two minute silence. Our art teacher Katherine Pugh joined us to make poppy wreaths with the residents which are now proudly displayed around the home. To finish the day, we had singer Anne Rayleen in to sing classic songs from the wartime era. The residents loved Anne’s singing so much we’ve invited her back to Thirlestaine Park to do a Christmas show.
Throughout Remembrance Day, the residents were all feeling very nostalgic and told stories of their memories of the war. Pictured is Chris who served as a Captain in the Second World War.
