Exploring Chinese Traditions and Cuisine for Chinese New Year

Upton Mill delights in experiencing different cultures and what better day to transport ourselves to the Far East than Chinese New Year? We started the day gently with a little Tai Chi to get our bodies moving. At lunchtime, the restaurant was changed into a banquet hall with lots of red and gold decorations, complete with fortune cookies and individual money bags – a traditional gift given at Chinese New Year. The food was prepared by our chef team and was an array of flavours and spices, including homemade bao buns. In the afternoon, the residents were treated to a dragon parade by the staff which showed off the results of the residents’ arts and craft sessions held in the run up to the day.
