We recently celebrated the 103rd birthday of our lovely resident, Phyllis, by hosting a big surprise party befitting such a milestone birthday. Staff and residents helped to organise the party and we were all delighted to be able to help Phyllis celebrate such a special occasion.
Of course, a birthday couldn’t be celebrated without a cake and local guitarist David Moss performed songs for guests, some in Welsh, which was perfect for Swansea-born Phyllis who sang along.
Born in Wales in 1917, Phyllis drove a canteen van through the docks in Swansea during the Blitz to feed the servicemen. We ensured our celebrations tied in with Phyllis’ place of birth and our chef provided amazing Welsh cakes and barra brith for the party. As a special birthday request, Phyllis wants to go to the beach so we plan to take her to Weston-Super-Mare when the weather warms up and she also received a CD from the Welsh police choir as a present.
