We were delighted to welcome Buckinghamshire County Council chairman, Brian Roberts, accompanied by wife Margaret, to the home as a special treat for residents Margaret and Norman Brookes who have just celebrated 70 years’ of marriage.
Margaret and Norman have been living here at Woodland Manor Care Home for a number of years now and our home manager, Grainne O’Donnell, wanted to do something very special for them to celebrate a momentous 70 years’ of married life.
As well as arranging a visit by the esteemed chairman of Buckinghamshire County Council, we also arranged for a wooden bench commemorating the couple’s anniversary to be erected around a tree in our grounds and revealed it to the couple on their anniversary. A special flower garden was also planted, with flowers and plants that have a special meaning to Margaret and Norman.
Our home manager, Grainne O’Donnell said: “We were thrilled to welcome the chairman and his wife to our home. We know he is very busy indeed, and to take time out of his busy schedule to visit our special couple really is greatly appreciated.
“It was our absolute pleasure to be able to celebrate Margaret and Norman’s anniversary with them. We simply had to do something that marked the occasion and so, we liaised with the family to make sure that what we did would be meaningful to them and not just a gesture.
“Not many people get to celebrate 70 years’ of marriage these days and the fact that they could mark that milestone together here at Woodland Manor is an absolute privilege.”
