Located in the world famous ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’, the Cotswolds, Chipping Norton is the setting for Penhurst Gardens Care Home. Steeped in tradition and heritage, Chipping Norton has a picture postcard setting with Cotswold stone architecture and is surrounded by rolling countryside.

Our care home is situated just five minutes’ walk from the thriving High Street, set back in a tranquil and idyllic enclave on the former Penhurst School site on New Street. Nearby towns and villages like Woodstock, Burford, Witney, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Banbury are all within easy reach.

Opened in December 2016, Penhurst Gardens provides 24 hour residential, nursing, dementia and respite care for the elderly in an elegant and spacious home incorporating numerous thoughtful and practical features which ensure Penhurst Gardens is able to meet the changing needs of our residents.

Porthaven’s expertly trained and professional staff are dedicated to the care, comfort and dignity of all our residents, with special emphasis given to promoting independence, privacy, respect and wellbeing.

All residents at Penhurst Gardens benefit from living in a caring environment with generously appointed private bedrooms with en suite wetrooms, and plentiful communal living areas including sitting rooms, restaurants, a café, hairdressing salon, leisure and wellness room and private dining room for special family occasions.

In keeping with our unique and award winning leisure and wellness philosophy, our residents also benefit from our private and secure landscaped gardens for peaceful relaxation, gardening and if the weather permits, gentle exercise.

Body and Soul

Monday 4th March 2019 - 11:30am

Learn the art of relaxation with meditation and music, gentle sounds and aromatherapy oils. All welcome!


Monday 11th March 2019 - 2:30pm

Uniting with the community, our local police will be getting their hands dirty, assisting the residents in planting bulbs and getting the gardens ready for the summer.

Pet Therapy

Tuesday 19th March 2019 - 2:30pm

We welcome back some of the team from our local Fairy Tale Farm who will be visiting with a variety of well behaved animals, from rabbits to ducks, for residents to hold, stroke and pet.

History Comes to Penhurst Gardens

Wednesday 27th March 2019 - 2:30pm

Oxford Museum are coming to Penhurst Gardens with a range of interesting artefacts, which residents will be able to handle and can learn about their uses and origins – a must for historians!

Burns Night Celebrations

As is traditional on Burns Night, our residents celebrated the renowned Scottish poet with a dinner of haggis, followed by the reading of one of his poems. Our residents also enjoyed a wee bit of welly throwing to end the day and tried to knock over as many cans as they could.

Multicultural Art Workshop

In2Cultures returned to Penhurst Gardens recently to assist our residents in creating projects based around textiles from the Maasai of Africa. During a bag making class, they decorated small bags with a variety of stamps and colours which they could then take away with them or gift to loved ones.

Porthaven Raises Fantastic Sum for South African Care Home Outreach Project
