Located in the world famous ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’, the Cotswolds, Chipping Norton is the setting for Penhurst Gardens Care Home. Steeped in tradition and heritage, Chipping Norton has a picture postcard setting with Cotswold stone architecture and is surrounded by rolling countryside.
Our care home is situated just five minutes’ walk from the thriving High Street, set back in a tranquil and idyllic enclave on the former Penhurst School site on New Street. Nearby towns and villages like Woodstock, Burford, Witney, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Banbury are all within easy reach.
Opened in December 2016, Penhurst Gardens provides 24 hour residential, nursing, dementia and respite care for the elderly in an elegant and spacious home incorporating numerous thoughtful and practical features which ensure Penhurst Gardens is able to meet the changing needs of our residents.
Porthaven’s expertly trained and professional staff are dedicated to the care, comfort and dignity of all our residents, with special emphasis given to promoting independence, privacy, respect and wellbeing.
All residents at Penhurst Gardens benefit from living in a caring environment with generously appointed private bedrooms with en suite wetrooms, and plentiful communal living areas including sitting rooms, restaurants, a café, hairdressing salon, leisure and wellness room and private dining room for special family occasions.
In keeping with our unique and award winning leisure and wellness philosophy, our residents also benefit from our private and secure landscaped gardens for peaceful relaxation, gardening and if the weather permits, gentle exercise.
We would be delighted to meet you, show you around the home and discuss whether we are able to assist you or your loved one.
To arrange a visit please call our home manager, Michelle Daly, our client services manager, Mark Young or if you prefer, simply send us a message.
Below are a selection of upcoming activities at Penhurst Gardens. For the full listing, please click here.
Every morning at 10.30am, we take our residents through some exercise routines using either an exercise ball or through dance which can be done as a seated class. We also help residents to formulate their own individual exercise programmes so they can meet the goals they set for themselves through fitness.
Our Scrabble Club can get very competitive but it’s great fun and we have some brilliant players.
Using seasonal flowers, we create beautiful arrangements to display around the home or for residents rooms.
Join us for the first residents meeting of 2021 and let us know what you would like to see on the leisure and wellness programme for the New Year. We hope our minibus trips will resume shortly and it’s a great way of gauging the likes and interests of our residents so we can ensure our activity schedule is tailored to everyone’s needs.
All this is happening as well as our regular groups. Contact us today on 01608 698100 to find out more about these upcoming events and activities or why not suggest an activity yourself!

Read moreScrapbooking has always been a very popular activity at Penhurst Gardens and we have enjoyed some very creative sessions in recent times. ‘This is Me’, has been a big scrapbooking event, with residents creating their own books full of memorabilia and pictures which have been truly inspirational. We’ve learned so much about everyone and this has really helped us know everyone that little bit better.
Following our very successful French evening and at the request of one of our residents, we hosted a Hawaiian-themed evening, with everyone dressing up in grass skirts and leis. As the evenings are now so cold and dark, it gave us the perfect excuse to escape to a tropical island for a few hours. Ensuring that everyone maintained their distance, we enjoyed food and drink with everyone smiling and laughing throughout the night. Many of our residents agreed it was the best night they’d had in a long time and we’re looking forward to hosting another socially distanced themed evening very soon.
