As the weather continues to get warmer, our keen gardeners have been out in our beautiful garden tending to the vegetables and fruit that we’ve been growing as part of this year’s Garden Challenge. Pictured is Dallas who has been helping with the rhubarb picking and has been a great help to us.
One of this year’s categories is ‘Wartime Allotment’ and we’ve been tasked with growing a selection of vegetables which will be judged for their taste, colour, ripeness and sweetness. Tying in with the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the challenge harks back to the war years when many would be growing their own fruit and vegetables to feed their families. This category has brought back a lot of fond memories for our residents who can remember their families growing their own produce to eat and we’re excited to try the fruits of our labour.
