Honouring Armed Forces Day

On 30th June, we commemorated Armed Forces Day at Astbury Mere. Our residents had a great time as they enjoyed entertainment from Jim McGrath during his Elvis tribute show and Beckie Morley of Musical Moments. We were joined on the day by Cheshire Constabulary Road Policing Officers, PC Howell, Constable Jennings and Constable Robinson. Jean White also showed us the precious medals and possessions of her brother, who was killed in action during World War II. We were pleased to have raised £101 to donate to the Cheshire branch of the Armed Forces charity, SSAFA.

Two of our residents, Irene Littleton and Walton Bowyer spent the day at the National Memorial Arboretum in Stafford, which is the UK’s year-round centre of Remembrance. They said it was a very moving but worthwhile day at the Arboretum, which honours the services and sacrifices made by all those who have served our country.
