On Friday 15th October, Pamela Graham from Owl Friends visited our residents at Astbury Mere care home, located in Congleton. During the visit, residents were given the chance to hold and touch the birds, and learn about their new-feathered friends.
Pamela taught our residents interesting facts about the owls, their personalities and her experiences hand-rearing them. The owls were even took on room visits for those residents that were unable to take part in the session. Watching our residents get up close and personal with these magnificent birds was fantastic. The opportunity clearly brought a great deal of joy to everyone who joined in.
For some, it triggered the recollection of having budgies as a child, or seeing owls in the countryside, where they lived growing up. Spike, the barn owl and another smaller owl had not been able to interact with the public during the pandemic, but they looked happy to finally be reconnecting with the community.
