On Friday 3rd May, during our highly-anticipated grand opening ceremony, iconic broadcaster and TV journalist, Angela Rippon, declared our beautiful home officially open.
Thanks to Angela’s role as an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society and her involvement in dementia friendly communities, we felt she was the perfect person to open our home and it was a pleasure to welcome her to Hartfield House. She spoke about her own experiences of dealing with dementia when looking after her mother and how she used Porthaven homes as the standard against which to judge other care settings.
Angela took the time to speak to our residents, staff and guests who were delighted to meet her and seized the opportunity for a chat. One resident, Mick Fuller, said of the occasion: “I really enjoyed the whole day, the food was lovely and Angela was a lovely, warm lady who took the time to talk to everyone here.” He continued: “Angela spent time getting to know us and I felt very at ease in her company. I thoroughly enjoyed the day”.
Following Angela’s speech and the unveiling of a celebratory plaque, guests moved into the gardens and bistro to enjoy a fantastic lunch prepared by our talented kitchen team.
