On 28th June, we opened our doors for National Care Home Open Day, a day which celebrated and gave recognition to the significant role that the arts play in care settings. In order to do something out of the ordinary, we held an arts festival and a barbecue for residents, families and visitors.
We dotted gazebos and tents around our garden to provide some much needed shade from the beautiful sunshine and set up displays of artwork created by our residents and by members of the local Leatherhead Art Society. Badger the dancing dog kick-started the day by performing for our guests. We also had stalls selling silver jewellery and cosmetics and Create Unique, which is a regular session on our leisure and wellness programme, came along to show us the kinds of things we would be making in her future classes.
The weather was perfect and we had live entertainment throughout the event.
