Every Porthaven care home has a skilled nursing and care team who are knowledgeable, experienced and passionate about providing the very best care for residents living with cancer.
What is cancer and how can we help?
Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body, and the latest cancer research has found that half the people born in the UK will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime, so the need for specialist care will be a reality for many of us.
At Porthaven, we understand that being able to discuss a resident’s cancer care is extremely important and we involve our residents in their care planning at the outset as well as throughout their stay with us. We also understand that emotional support is as important as physical and medical support for those living with cancer, and all our staff understand the need for compassion, respect and dignity for each and every resident.
All Porthaven homes have numerous features to help deal with any physical or nursing requirements caused by cancer, but the overriding ethos of Porthaven is to maintain warm, homely and non-institutional environments. Every resident is able to relax in his or her own spacious private bedroom and en suite wetroom, or participate in as many of the social activities a Porthaven home has to offer as each resident chooses.
It’s not just the surroundings which make a huge difference to caring for people living with cancer. Our chefs are trained to produce fresh, home cooked, nutritious meals which encourage our residents to eat and participate in the very social activity of enjoying food and our activities and wellbeing coordinators and care staff are all trained to provide stimulating individual and group activities. When excellent care combines with good nutrition, physical and mental stimulation, well-being and contentment are promoted, and that is what we wish to achieve for each and every Porthaven resident.
