Located in the world famous ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’, the Cotswolds, Chipping Norton is the setting for Penhurst Gardens Care Home. Steeped in tradition and heritage, Chipping Norton has a picture postcard setting with Cotswold stone architecture and is surrounded by rolling countryside.

Our care home is situated just five minutes’ walk from the thriving High Street, set back in a tranquil and idyllic enclave on the former Penhurst School site on New Street. Nearby towns and villages like Woodstock, Burford, Witney, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Banbury are all within easy reach.

Opened in December 2016, Penhurst Gardens provides 24 hour residential, nursing, dementia and respite care for the elderly in an elegant and spacious home incorporating numerous thoughtful and practical features which ensure Penhurst Gardens is able to meet the changing needs of our residents.

Porthaven’s expertly trained and professional staff are dedicated to the care, comfort and dignity of all our residents, with special emphasis given to promoting independence, privacy, respect and wellbeing.

All residents at Penhurst Gardens benefit from living in a caring environment with generously appointed private bedrooms with en suite wetrooms, and plentiful communal living areas including sitting rooms, restaurants, a café, hairdressing salon, activities and wellbeing room and private dining room for special family occasions.

In keeping with our unique and award winning activities and wellbeing philosophy, our residents also benefit from our private and secure landscaped gardens for peaceful relaxation, gardening and if the weather permits, gentle exercise.

We would be delighted to meet you, show you around the home and discuss whether we are able to assist you or your loved one.

Celebrating sport and fitness through the ages

This month, we marked National Fitness Day with something a little different. We were delighted to welcome Sonia from the Oxford County Museum Service, who brought along some fascinating historical sporting objects for us to explore.

The afternoon was made even more special by our residents’ own stories and memories. Charlie shared his memory of seeing the legendary Roger Bannister running in Oxford, and Valarie sparked a great discussion about the history of tennis skirts!

It was truly the perfect mix of history, memories, and movement; a joyful celebration of how sport has brought people together across generations.

Supporting the Alzheimer’s Society

Huge congratulations to our amazing Activities and Wellbeing Coordinator, Lilly, and her step mum, April, who completed an incredible 13-mile walk through Cheltenham for Trek13 in support of the Alzheimer’s Society. They raised an impressive £732 and finished in just 5 hours and 24 minutes!

What an inspiring effort for such an important cause, we are so proud of you both. And a big thank you to everyone in our community who donated and showed their support!

Fundraising for Marie Curie

As part of the annual Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal, we held a community bake sale and invited everybody to sample a variety of delicious homemade treats baked by our residents and team members. There were a huge selection of cakes on offer, including clementine cake, lemon drizzle and a particularly playful colourful sponge cake made by our Maintenance Technician Stuart and his daughter! Thank you to everybody who joined us and helped us fundraise for this vital charity – we hope you enjoyed your cake!
