On Thursday 8th August, we welcomed local MP Michelle Donelan so we could show off the work of the Trowbridge Cadets who have transformed a section of our garden into a sensory haven.
Affectionately named ‘Cadet Corner’ in homage to the Trowbridge Police Cadets who gave up their Easter holidays to help us, we showed Michelle around with the help of PCSO Luke George who joined us to represent the cadets. He talked through the work of PC Charly Chilton and the team of young cadets, who were recently awarded the Patrons Cup at their annual awards ceremony for their community work.
Since the transformation, we have entered into two competitions, Southwest in Bloom’s ‘In Your Neighbourhood’ and Porthaven’s own Garden Challenge for which the judging is imminent. Our local MP was extremely impressed by the handiwork of the cadets and was particularly impressed by the garden’s green impact which she said she’s been championing since becoming an MP.
Libby Miles, our client services manager, said of the occasion: “It is amazing what the cadets have achieved in such a short space of time. They took control of the whole project drawing on each other’s experiences and knowledge.” She continued: “They are an amazing, respectful and mature group of youngsters and our residents will be forever grateful for all of their hard work.”
