Meet Carla Kell, Home Manager

I have worked in the care sector for over 27 years and in this time I have gained lots of skills and qualities which I consider vital in managing a care home. Falkland Grange is my sixth Registered Manager’s position so I join Porthaven with a wealth of experience as a leader in healthcare.

For the past 18 years, I have worked for West Berkshire Council and I have a close working relationship with the sector regulator, the Care Quality Commission. I hope to continue this relationship as I take Falkland Grange through its’ commissioning period and beyond.

My first commitment is to our Residents’ and their relatives, in ensuring each Resident receives the best possible care that is resident-centred, and as individual as each of them. Every day should be a good day and my team and I should play a big part in making that happen. For my team, I am committed to nurturing a work environment that promotes fairness, equality and fun! I am a hands-on manager and operate an open door policy so that staff, Residents and relatives can approach me for matters, small or big, at all times.

I have a particular passion for End of Life and Palliative Care, but I love all aspects of my job and consider it a pleasure and a privilege to be able to work in such a rewarding career. Outside of work, I am a mother of two teenage children and our family have lived in the local area for 18 years. Home Managers’ generally don’t have a lot of spare time, but when I do have some downtime, I spend it with my family, baking and running. I have to run after all that baking!
